Today, Mom handed down to me these wooden shoes that her uncle had brought back from France during WWI, where he served on the front lines. She told me these shoes are called 'sabots'. She went on to explain that the word sabotage came from the name for these shoes because during the Industrial Revolution workers would through their 'sabots' into the gears of the machinery for fear that the machines were going to take over their jobs. Guess they were right to fear that.
